Few sounds strike more fear into an enemy of Terrinoth than the thundering hooves of a column of armored destriers. Each mount is bred and trained for war. Each rider is a lifelong professional warrior or avowed knight, sworn to a baron's or Free City's service until the rider's final breath. Rider and mount work together on the battlefield in perfect synergy, charging into combat and crushing the enemy in a wave of steel.

Maintaining the skills of cavalry warfare requires constant practice in and out of the saddle. Terrinoth's ages-old system of tournaments evolved out of this practical need, and from the eternal desire of young warriors to win renown. Baronies and Free Cities alike hold dazzling tournaments bedecked in the banners and courtesy of chivalry. Those who compete may earn coveted positions of service with great lords or military orders, such as the Knights of the Greatwood. The Citadel's own Tournament of Valor is the oldest and most revered in Terrinoth, and its champions earn the notice of the Citadel Guard and are invited to become companions in its order of famed knights.

The common-born cavaliers who server the Free Cities are no less noteworthy. The illustrious Riders of Riverwatch are not only scouts, but are often equipped and fight as heavy cavalry when the needs of war demand. No matter where a cavalry unit's riders hail from, they carry within them the most honored traditions of King Daqan.
